Not so frosty…

I’m frequently asked about whether chickens are ok with low winter temperatures and whether coops should be insulated or not. Chickens however are surprisingly hardy creatures despite originating from jungle fowl. They generate a significant amount of heat when roosting and providing the house has sufficient shelter but also sufficient ventilation they will survive the UK winters. Just take a look here, -5c overnight and can you guess where the roosting perch is in this house which has 4 bantam owlbeards within it?
